The Engledow Christmas Dinners
These were instituted sometime in the 1960's by my Grandfather - Professor Sir Frank Engledow [FLE aka NK] - to get all of his daughters, their husbands, and grandchildren together every second year - when those overseas could get annual leave.
It is still celebrated today - with the grandchildren, down to the great great grandchildren ! For details on who they all are . . . my brother John runs the family tree web site at https://www.myheritage.com. Note: to see his Engledow siblings, click the symbol just to the top right of FLE's box.

His Biography says they continued until 1980 when he left Hadleigh and went into a home. I remember visiting him in the summer either 1978 or 1979 on leave from Kenya.

One needs to create an account and login to read it online. However, I did that on the 5th August 2023, and now have a downloaded copy of GDH Bell's Biography of FLE. If anyone wants to read it, drop me a line. It is also available online at JSTOR.
There are two notable pictures that were given to FLE on his retirement:
- His portrait [painted in oil]. This was passed on to Frank Steketee, and remains in La Wantzenau.
- A water color of the front of New Court at St John's College given to me as I was also there in the late 60's. My capability with a camera is quite low - so apologies for the poor picture below. The picture is 21½ by 14½ inches and is signed by E K S Powell.
