Walker & Templeton Ltd - Sheet Metal Fabricator
Introduced the concepts of quality management into a company that has three divisions which grew from serving the same (agricultural) customer base: viz servicing dairy equipment, sheet metal and light engineering work, and clothing supplies.
West of Scotland Engineering Ltd - Engine overhaul shop
Introduced structured management into an extremely busy engine repair shop, which also carries out general mechanical engineering, including hydraulics. A major part of the solutions have been to improve the management of the work flow, so enabling the collection of quality records: this will then lead to improvements in performance, and a reduction in risk.
Tricuspid Computers Ltd - Computer Supply and Maintenance contractor
Introduced the systems needed to bring to this small company all the procedures needed by BS 5750. The staff are highly qualified technically, and generally produce high specification solutions to their clients (which include the MOD). Accreditation to BS 5750 has now become a client requirement, and the company intend to use the opportunity to rationalise their systems and procedures, and enhance their current audit techniques.
Barker Barton & Lawson Ltd - Quantity Surveyors
This new firm of Quantity Surveyors, emerging from the remains of an older firm, wished to start their operations in as sure a manner as possible. Their quality system encompasses their business planning, time recording, and continuous contract review, thus integrating all aspects of the company. The result has been the award of several prestigious jobs. The completion of audit training will leave them in an even stronger position.
Port Electrical Services Ltd - Electrical Contractor
Reviewed the systems of this small electrical contractor, who do a substantial amount of marine electrical and instrumentation repair work, as well as normal jobbing and industrial contracting work. Defined the existing procedures, and introduced Quality Management Systems Procedures, in particular audit procedures. Reviewed the whole system against the requirements of BS 5750 Part 2, and Def Stan 05/92 producing a compliance schedule, and introducing the remaining procedures.
Forth Estuary Engineering Ltd - Ship Repair Yard in Leith Docks
Assessed the extent of the company's AQAP 4 system. Separated this into Quality Management Procedures, Company Management Procedures, and Operations Procedures. Devised and implemented the additional procedures to meet the requirements of BS 5750: Part 2, and the MOD's latest standard 05/92. Brought into being the processes of audit and management review.
McCulloch & Co (Decorators) Ltd - Painting & Decorating Contractor
Introduced to this small firm employing up to twenty tradesmen a simple Quality System to meet the requirements of BS 5750 Part 2. Documented the company's existing procedures, introduced the concepts of Quality Management, and documented the procedures subsequently introduced, and monitored the carrying out of audits and management reviews. Clients do not require assessment, only a documented system.
Jigs & Fixtures - A Machine (Press) Tool Designer & Manufacturer
Introduced the concepts of quality in a simple and structured fashion to an extremely well run family business employing some twenty tradesmen. Documented the company's existing systems, providing an additional aspect to these, and devised and introduced the necessary quality management procedures. Improved the systems to meet the requirements of BS 5750: Part 1, with relation to document management and design.
Dunsmore Reid & Smith - An International Group of Quantity Surveyors -
Hit by recession, the group decided to make their operations much more efficient and to focus on customer satisfaction as a means of survival by the introduction of a management systems (including quality management) to meet the requirements of BS 5750: Part 2.
Semple & Cochrane Ltd - A Major Electrical, Electronic, Communications Contractor
Over a year, reviewed and recommended the necessary changes to their existing documented system, identifying and introducing the missing procedures both in the operational and quality management systems. Conducted a number of quality seminars at site foreman level to introduce in company quality training. Accredited for all company operations by NQA.
Harper Hillington Controls Ltd - Switchgear & Control Gear Design & Manufacture
Reviewed the company's own quality manual, and suggested that major changes and additions be made to encompass the requirements of BS 5750: Part 1 for Design. Introduced a document management system to handle Design Change Control. Assisted in writing all the additional procedures, mainly for design, and quality management activities. Applying for accreditation.
Garvel Dry Dock Co Ltd - Ship Repair & Overhaul Yard & Dry Dock
Assessed the extent of the company's system which had been based upon their AQAP 4 system. Removed the Quality Management Procedures, and separated the rest into Company Management Procedures, and Operations Procedures. Included within the various manuals adequate procedures to satisfy the requirements of the Health & Safety Regulations. Devised and implemented the necessary Quality Management procedures to meet the requirements of BS 5750: Part 2, and the MOD's latest standard 05/92. Brought into being the processes of audit and management review. Accredited by Lloyds.
C.R.Perry Ltd - A medium sized firm of Builders & Joiners -
Iintroduced a quality system to BS 5750: Part 2, into the company, including an inspection system both on site and in the joinery shop. Documented the company's procedures (including accounting and job costing) devising the necessary Quality Management procedures.
Wilson Metal Products - Metal Fabricator and Metal Spinners
Devised & implemented a Quality System to BS 5750: Part 2, including review of the company's existing procedures, writing for the first time their Company Manual. Created a Quality Manual, and the necessary associated forms. Introduced inspection to the shop floor for the first time.
Scottish Council for Educational Technology
Part of a Total Quality Management Team providing a major review of the organisation's quality activities, with responsibility for the two software divisions, where it is intended to ensure that systems meet the requirements of the TICKIT scheme. Initial review undertaken at the start of 1993, followed by a detailed implementation proposals, currently under consideration prior to commencement.
Islebrook Systems Ltd - Software Audit of "Test Manager"
Reviewed the conceptual strategy for a software package to enable the registration and monitoring of results of statutory health & safety inspections of electrical equipment. Later audited the software package at source code level for consistency, and functionality certifying the status of the software for the funding bankers.
Blystadt Shipping Group - Procurement of a Floating Production Vessel
Appointed to set up a complete procurement system for a US$100Million project including design, design verification, material and equipment buying, and construction and commissioning of the completed vessel, with particular reference to the need to meet stringent North Sea Quality requirements.
Walker MacLeod - Metal Fabrications and Manufacture of Switchgea
Reviewed and documented all the existing procedures, and introduced and supervised the implementation, of additional procedures creating the appropriate record sheets, and inspection and test plans, to ensure their systems would meet BS 5750 Part 2. Carried out initial audits, and devised routine audit plans. Accredited in 1993.
DHE Ltd, Electrical Engineers and Contractors - Total Quality Management System
As a consultant, devised, developed and implemented all the systems for an emerging firm engaged in the design, procurement and installation of switchgear to meet BS 5750 Part 1. Included the company Profile, Operations Procedures, Accounting Procedures, as well as all Quality and Inspection Procedures, and in particular document control in the Drawing Office. Developed all the company's standard forms from fax sheets, purchase orders, expense sheets in accounts format, to accounting procedure sheets.

Lithgow Electrical Group - Electronics Manufacturing.
Responsible for the development and implementation of a Quality System for the manual capture and analysis by computer of all inspection data for an electronics and cable harness factory with a workforce of over 300 people. The system was given a "zero defect" rating by IBM, and met BS 5750 Part 2. Developed all the necessary data input and record sheets. Accredited in 1990.
Lithgow Electrical Group - Switchgear and Contracting
Responsible for the development and implementation of a Quality Assurance scheme to BS 5750 Part 1 for the Design and Manufacture of Switchgear, and for general contracting activities - particularly for the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry. Developed all the supporting documentation, and inspection and Test Report Forms. Applied on four modules for British Gas' Rough & Morecambe fields.
Suralya Steam Power Plant, Indonesia - Procurement Control
In 1981, as Contracts Engineer, supervised the implementation by Monenco of a Quality Assurance Scheme to the Canadian Standard CSA Z299 for the Boilers, Turbines & Generators, Ash Handling, and Coal Handling contracts on this US$350 Million Project.
Indian Engineering Export Promotion Council
In 1978, visited India to conduct Vendor Assessments on manufacturing companies in the water industry as their technical ability with regard to design, and quality control. Included Pump and Motor Manufacturers, Engine, Turbine, & General Machine Shops, Process Plant Contractors, Iron & Steel Works, etc
Chania - Kimakia - Thika Water Supply Scheme for Nairobi - Procurement Control
In 1977-80, As the project's chief engineer, supervised the Kenya Government Inspection Contract for the inspection in the countries of origin of imported plant, equipment and materials, being procured for this Kenya£60 Million project.
Midlands Link Motorway - Control of Concrete
In 1970, as Site Engineer, supervised the running of the Concrete Batching Plant to produce a concrete with constant slump at the point of discharge for a wide range of transport times, and temperatures (summer & winter) for major pours in excess of 150 Cubic Yards: requiring a continually changing mix, to ensure pumpability.
